I am head teacher at Botany Downs Kindergarten in Howick. A long history of kindergarten teaching was interrupted by a fabulous couple of years as head teacher at Homai Vision Education Centre followed by a couple of years lecturing at Auckland College of Education. E-learning has not been a natural transition, but rather a need to keep up with the children that has developed into a passion. I am an e-’learner’. As part of the Centres of Innovation action research programme 2006 - 2008 one research question explored how visual communication tools enhanced and extended the learning of children and their families. Community is a vital valued component of Botany Downs Kindergarten. In the next year I will explore building community through e-learning on a micro and macro level.
